Policies and Procedures are two words often heard in the business and there is often confusion between the two concepts.

What is Organizational Policy?

A Policy defines the outcome; it is premeditated rule set by the company to lead organizational policy, employees and business decisions, and to manage, direct and control the actions and conduct. P & Ps help companies meet the legal requirements set out by the Employment Standards Act Human Rights Education Code, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and a number of other requirements compliance.

A properly written policy and / or procedure allows employees to understand their role and level of responsibility and engaged in their work by making decisions within predefined limits. By introducing P & Ps, management can provide guidance to employees without having to micromanage, freeing managers to focus on strategic thinking.

P & Ps allow labor to not only understand the accountabilities and responsibilities of their own position, but also to their co-workers who can contribute to the collaboration environment.
